5.0 shorty headers

Sep 04, 2003 4 Replies

Hey all...

i'm new to ford (formerly a buick/olds guy)

i have an 88 5.0 efi... do 5.0 shorty headers replace stock exhaust manifolds across the board, or are they vehicle application specific? the car needs a MUCH better sound than it has now with mans and a custom dual (with cats) exhaust.

tks gnat

the '88 5.0's did come with headers stock. While they aren't great headers, they are headers nonetheless. Replacing them will not change the sound a whole lot but you may gain a little power. The shorty headers are a direct replacement. Your biggest sound difference and even performance difference will come when you change the H-pipe. HTH, Erik D. '94 white lightning

Sorry, should have mentioned... The 5.0 is in a merc grand marquis... with cast manifolds. The H pipe is an aftermarket factory replacement for the police piece from the crown vic.

And thanks for the quick reply!

5.0 shorty headers will fit in the Grand Marquis engine bay, you may come a bit close to the air box on the passanger side but they fit.
