67 Mustang-Export Brace

I assume you are referring to the aftermarket type export brace ala.. Shelby. Yes, that unibody does flex a tad. Have the car on level ground and not jacked up on either side. If this doesn't work then jack it up where your having the most trouble. I have the original one on my 67 Shelby GT350 and an aftermarket one on my 70 Boss 302. It will fit but darn!! J Burke

If someone could post the correct dimensions for the towers and firewall distance, you could find out if the part is accurate or not.

I know for a fact that the shock towers do indeed bend inward from age, and spreading the towers apart to fit the brace is the correct way, instead of modifying the brace. But I would make sure your particular brace is dimensionally accurate.

I have a 67 390 Fastback that I put this brace on years ago. The combination of the weight of the big block and the years it's been bouncing up and down have rolled the shock towers toward each other. It's time to put the car on a frame rack and put the shock towers back where they belong. The fun part will be watching the ROOF move while you pull, because of the unibody construction. Near the frame rack should be a manual that gives the necessary dimensions. I did mine in body shop class at the local junior college. The good news is athat after the shock towers are back in the right place and braced, you'll be able to properly align the car.

And then a front end alignment would be in order.
