Toyota suspends sales of Lexus GX 460 by Peter Valdes-Dapena, senior writerApril 13, 2010: 6:58 PM ET

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Toyota asked dealers to temporarily suspend sales of the new 2010 Lexus GX 460 after Consumer Reports issued a safety warning on the SUV.

"We are taking the situation with the GX 460 very seriously and are determined to identify and correct the issue Consumer Reports identified," said Mark Templin, Lexus Group vice president and general manager, in a prepared statement.

I think you're unaware of how consumer reports "tests" things. Their tests are almost entirely subjective rather than objective. When they target a product they test until "failure" and then claim it's not good enough. Failure being a subjective judgement and often for the targeted vehicle it's held to a higher standard than the others because they saw something they could exploit.

Now throw in toyota's other's problems and it's just a clear target for CR to generate some news coverage for itself. Remember, they don't take advertising so the only way they make money is selling their publication. The idea they are unbiased because they don't run ads is simply absurd. Lots of people are biased without selling advertisement.

Then Toyota should say that.

That wouldn't be a politically correct response.

The media won't get technically in depth enough to expose consumer reports anyway so they'd just come off looking badly.

:

They tested 2 of them. The only reason that there have been no problems reported by the public is that the public learned (like stupid dogs) finally that SUV's cannot be cornered (most of them) like cars. In the early years of SUV sales, there were huge numbers of rollovers cause by retarded ex-car drivers still thinking their centre of gravity was 1.5ft off the ground.
