Best 289 rebuild options

Hello All, I'm looking to rebuild the 289 in our 68 Coupe this Winter. I have all ready put a 4 barrel carb and intake on it and was looking for a direction to go, as in do I have it bored .30 over (if it needs it or not), what cam etc. As you can see I am open to most any option. I have compression tested the motor and the results were as high as 100 in one cylinder and as low as 55 lbs in another.



The car is an auto car that is going to be used as a street and non-competive road course car. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Your harmonic balancer may be an issue, as the rubber may be deteriorated. Otherwise the heads will need the most attention. A mild duration hyd. roller retro-fit cam would make for an interesting running

If this is the case I can get you info. on a company that rebuilds harmonic balancers. Had to get the balancer for my '64.5 rebuilt, they did a great job.
