I started with a 56 Crown Vickie my folks let me use. My first car was a Morris Minor. $75. Caught fire on the way home the night I bought it. Four door, four banger, four speed. The radio was out of a 52 Dodge (took up about 2/3 of the dash), and wired with the old style bare wire/glass insulator tv antenna wire (reason for the fire). Tires were bald. The exhause pipe was just a piece of plumbing pipe shoved into the muffler and wired in place. Brakes were shot. Paint? The guy drove it on the beach (Florida panhandle) and, without cleaning it, painted it blue using a brush. You could pop the bubbles and sand rolled out, and you could pick the brush hairs out of the paint. But, what did I know. I was 15 and my dad said it would give me something to do (restoring it) until I could get my license. Ahhhh the glory days of youth!
