Soak em with hot soapy (Meguiars car wash) water, then use a Mr. Clean Magic eraser... works like a million bucks! One thing I do, even with my Libby, is keep some Meguiars quick detail yaround, When I get home I get them real quick before I go in the house. Keeps them from turning into concrete.

dont let them stay on the paint for too long.. the acid in the bugs will eat through the clear coat

Anyone recall seeing the commercial where the neighbor guy is wrapping his car in bubble wrap?

Priority one is don't let the stuff sit any longer than you have to. I think it's the proteins (just like when someone eggs your car) that's like acid. Oh, yeah bird droppings, too.

Maybe someone has tried and knows if it works or not on late model cars, but way back when we were diving Chevy Biscayne's on patrol, we'd spray furniture polish on the chrome bumpers and nose. Made it a little slicker, so there was less stick and more sliddddddeeeeee off. Helped pass the Watch Commanders inspections... at least we believed it did.

Not 100% but urban legend said it worked so we continued to do it. It's a trick which was carried over from the armed forces when dorm dwellers used it on shower stalls, toilets, sinks, etc, to keep water spots at bay for inspections.

I don't know how it might work today. Maybe someone could call the 800 number on a can and see what the say. Spike

Tried & true, been doing it for years - make a wet paste of baking soda & water, slop it on, wait 10 minutes, pretty much everything will rinse off.

Soak it with water long enough will get it off. The longer it sits onthere, the longer it takes to remove it. Soak with water or water and soap.

Umm... Did the bugs come with the car?

Did you soak them with soapy water first?

Dang! You have a mess on your hands!

KJ is the Jeep code for a Liberty *grin*

I decided that since I wasnt Shug's momma any more, I should give up the SVT thing...

Ok, so you inherited them, they have been there forever. Let me think for a minute.

Black car, questionable exterior maintenance by previous owner (from previous photos posted)

If you just take a buffer to it, you will have polished bugs. AND if you get agressive with a compound on the buffer , you risk going through the paint. SooooOOOooooo here is what I would try next. Get some meguiars Cleaner wax, and a terry cloth towell, a radio to prop up on the step for your listening pleasure, a short stool to sit on and a six pack of cold ones. Start by addressing each gob of goo with spot cleaning with the compound, It SHOULD work.

I would sure like to see a close up of the damage though.

This reminds me, Kristen drove the Libby in to work day before yesterday, I gotta go wash the bugs off.

If you can post a shot, that would be great or email me one but let me know you sent it to KJ.Kate at hot mail dot com If I have no warning, I never check that email.

Hmm, I'm surprised no one has mentioned this so far . . . there is a commercial product you can buy from various manufacturers called "bug & tar remover." I have used them in the past with good results.

Also works good on tar. :-)

if you first tried wax and then soak it it won't work. the wax sealed it. Use some dawn dish soap to get rid of the wax and to soak it nicely.. maybe put wet towels over it for a while... then with minimal force rub it off.. might take a while.. but will come off.

An extended water or soapy water soak should get nearly everything. You may have to drap a wet towel over the area, and even cover it with plastic wrap to keep it wet. Once the guts soften up , the toenails come off pretty easily.

For tar or oil stains, use kerosene. It softens the hydrocarbons but doesnt normally do anything to paint.
