CobraJet's vs GT40Patrick's

Nope. I'm not an 18-year-old girl.

Well, Patrick has done extremely well in pointing out YOUR bullshit... that you have no experience whatsoever Mr. "gearhead".

Hot damn! I snap my fingers and cubicle boy does the work! At least

hearsay

interesting

Hot damn, snap my fingers and the same old Cobra Jet blah blah blah spews forth. Try to change the focus to the opponent's personal character, put him on the "defensive," pretend it'd be too much trouble to rebut the charges and that the rebuttals would be knocked down anyway. Par for the course.

The truth is what it is. I say the truth is that, about 35 years ago, you dabbled in street racing for a brief while with a *snicker* 289 Mustang. Probably living at home with Mommy and Daddy and pretending to go to college.

At some point you dropped out of college and moved to Arizona and opened a car stereo shop. Along the way you acquired a bunch of '60's cars, some of which had the ability to move under their own power. Thanks to your stewardship, none of them do now.

Along the way you ran a few laps at the dragstrip. But you have not done so for years, possibly decades.

At some point the stereo shop went bust, and you haven't held regular job since then. This is possible only if you're living on SSI, a personal injury award, or some other method of sucking on somebody else's tit.

Now you're nearly 50, living with 20-30 cats in some marginally habitable hut in the Arizona desert. Oh yeah, and about five months ago you started an actual automotive project, your first one in years, possibly decades.

While it is true that there seems to be absolutely nothing on-topic he contributes that I (or anyone else) couldn't readily find elsewhere, it's sort of nice having him around as a media gopher.

E.g., a couple weeks ago, "hey, 13 new American Muscle Car episodes, gotta remember to check TiVo."

Media gopher. That's good. The thing is, Patrick has manufactured this vision of himself as someone elite around here simply because of the longevity factor. He's really touchy about his "reputation". Pushing *that* button is what got his "prove it" tirade going. You'd think by now he'd know better.

Saw that. I've moved into the other building, but still have to dig a trench for the cable. Maybe I'll catch reruns.

I've been amazed at the defensiveness, and his grasping at straws to prove his point. "Get out your camera, and mail me greasy fingerprints. You're full of shit with no timeslips from the late 70s". I suppose his would be laminated and framed. And he's not very convincing when making what he knows to be false accusations.

I freely admit to being a freakshow (my non-alter ego does, too) from time to time, but at least I don't soberly embarrass myself in on-topic discussions. If that (and 'The List') is considered "elite", then the status quo is worse than I thought.

There have been some good ones. I got the TiVo box for the wife as a b-day gift, thinking it would just be a useless TV appliance to me. Now I just search, and record all those shows I want. I put in the keyword "submarines", and got a bunch of cool stuff. I highly recommend it.

Note the similarities in that respect between Patty and Willy. I wouldn't be surprised if they are emailing each other to pieces on this.

Take you and me and Warman and a couple others out of this group and there wouldn't be a complete set of tools amongst the rest. Not that I EXPECT everyone to be mechanically inclined.

But the problem is further-reaching. Recently there was the thread discussing RAMFM's good old days. I don't know if you were around then, but posts here used to number upwards of 4 or 5 hundred a day. There were dozens of core personalities here. One of several reasons I started the BB group was the difficulty in picking through all the late-model talk to get at classic content.

Usenet in recent time is taking a beating. Not just here, but all over. The proliferation of Web forums combined with better and faster interfaces draws much more people. Moderation keeps the posts concise and on topic, and info can be drawn from a wider base of contributors.

Although this sounds stifling to those of us used to a wider playing field, the benefits cannot be ignored. I know many people here and in my group read Web talk. Recently I've taken another look in that directon to see that there has been an improvement. I think the time has come, for me, to start shifting over to the specific forums that involve what I'm doing. The entity known as CobraJet cannot survive over there, so I'll probably just have to be myself.

The BB group will remain my home turf. The guys there have a much better overall grasp of things than here. RAMFM needs a revamp if it's going to avoid the fate that some of the other auto groups have endured.

I may look into it later. I have so much going on right now that I really can't spend time in front of the tube. Catch you on the other side.

And feigning to contradict one another. At times, it's gotten downright silly.

Not everyone is, but that's not my expectation, either. Some just like to burn rubber, attend cruises, and do plug-and-play improvements. Not a damned thing wrong with that, so long as you have a modicum of willingness to listen, discuss, learn, and do all the things Usenet was intended for. I enjoy helping people if they are willing to engage in an honest discussion, and I enjoy the reciprocal side of that, too.

I was popped in and out from about 96 or 97-present, at times not checking back in for years. I do remember my slow dialup speeds at the time, and hundreds of messages / day. That's part of why my participation was limited. I was also in school, working, and had a serious GF, and therefore very limited time and budget all told. Working at parts stores helped...

I have noticed this trend as well.

With the recent resurgence in the Mustang hobbyist field, and the changing demographics, I can see that. OTOH, those numbers might continue to support RAMFM, and it may do better than other groups have. But what it sounds like you're saying is that it has already weathered storms...

Yep...
