Has anybody else noticed how almost every 67 or 68 stang (and some other years I have seen) are advertised as potential Eleanors? Check eBay, its ridiculous.
It also seems to have driven the price on every 67/68 skyrocketing (regardless of condition). I've been looking for a clean original 67 V8 coupe with a budget of about 7K for 6 months without much luck.
Is it just me?

Well you can't blame me. When I think of Eleanor I think of a yellow 73 not some silly looking 67/68 "thing".
I was looking at a yellow with black 04 MACh1 over Xmas break. I told the salesman that if I got it I'd try and get a custom plate that read Eleanor, and he asked me why? I told him when he figured it out I'd come back and talk to him about the car and left. I was window shopping and needed a good reason to leave. I still have not heard from him. lol

Where did the name come from anyway? I thought it originated with the Gone in 60 Seconds movie, which was a remake. Was it in the original as well or did it actually come from somewhere else?

it's just you and perhaps where you live. Several times a year here in central california, just running around, i see clean 67-68s with decent resto work in them for around 5k-7k. Near fully restored, pony interior, etc, around 10-12 last time i checked the local car show.
The difference was the remake had a real Hollywood budget and it was crap too. Plot? Let's see, the remake had a cartoon villain, a former crook trying to go straight, misfit gang of crazy but "lovable" bandits, a big car chase, a big smoke and fire factory and cheesy CG. I don't think they could get any more clichés in there if they tried. StuK
Oops too late, Blockbuster had it on VHS so I grabbed it for tomorrow (Pats game tonight!)...
Besides, I love to see those huge Plymouth police cars tooling around!

Well it had nice cars which I liked but as usual, check your brain at the door. Throw Jolie in there because she happens to be the flavour of the month but totally superflous to what little plot there was. Let's say I was a little disapointed.....but not surprised. Wait till they remake Bullitt, Aye Caramba! The chase will have them doing cartwheels with JATO pods attached to their cars ( all CG of course). Pray they use modern cars as '67/'68 fastback prices are already out of control as you well know! StuK

90% voiceovers and that chase is too long. Oh well, at least now I know where "Eleanor" came from.
Yeah, isn't it great? Independent filmmaking may be a little rough, but it's sure as heck entertaining! :)
Anyway, it's better than that crummy Cage remake...
Let me guess you like the Fast and Furious movies.
I'll take the original anyday. At least the car chases are real not a but of computer graphics, that ricers thing is real. :)

Talk about over hyped. Did you see where they sold the first one at that high dollar car auction a few years back? I can't think of the name of it but Speed TV covered it for two days. They sold it for around $100k. later it comes out they sold it to themselves to give it a false value. lol

Goes to show that Mustang enthusiasts are loyal to the Ford produced car and not interested in commercialized resto-hollywood ventures. Maybe they'll go broke and leave the '67-'68 fastbacks alone.
