Co'mon CJ, if a BB Ford muscle car from the 60's-70's was such a great travelin' car, you wouldn't be drivin a P71 Crown Vic :-)

Priorities my friend.

Stereotyping of course :-) Anyone who knows me knows that I DO NOT fit the typical BMW driver profile. But it makes a hell of a daily grind machine.

The PI is slated to be replaced as the daily driver by my '67 Cougar, which will get the 351C coming out of the Torino Brougham.

Amen to that. I gotta say that's the worst insult I've read in this NG since, well, forever.

Some don't understand that Cobra Jet is just a make believe character. He's the hobby of this semi-retired 48 year old San Fernando Valley dude (a word he HATES) who now lives in the Arizona desert with

20-some cats and another 20-some old heaps. He spent a couple years, in the early to mid '70's, street racing a 289 California Special in the Valley. As far as I can tell these 20 year old carryings-on were his last actual experience behind the wheel of a V-8 powered car. He really enjoys messing with people on the Usenet, of which this thread is a classic example.

Here's an inventory of the CJ Collection, from a post dated June 2004:

'63 Galaxie Country Sedan Wagon - 390 '64 Monterey Marauder - 390 '64 Fairlane 500 Ranch Wagon '65 Olds Starfire - 425 '65 Galaxie 500 '65 Comet 404 '66 Mercury Colony Park Wagon - 410 '67 Mercury Commuter Wagon '67 Cougar - 289 '67 Cyclone GT Convertible - 390GT '68 Olds 4-4-2 - 400 '68 Torino GT - 390GT '68 Mustang GT/California Special - 289 '69 Plymouth Satellite - 383HP '69 Mustang Coupe - 302 '69 Cougar XR7 428 Cobra Jet '69 Cyclone CJ 428 Cobra Jet '69 Fairlane 428 Cobra Jet Automatic '69 Fairlane 428 Cobra Jet Stick '70 Cyclone Spoiler 429 Cobra Jet '70 Torino GT - 351C '70 Plymouth Road Runner - 440HP '72 F-250 Camper Special '73 Mustang - engineless '76 E-250 Econoline - 351W '86 Cougar - 232 '97 Crown Vic Police Interceptor

Quite an impressive group. I guess CJ recently added a '70 Torino Brougham 351C to the family, bringing the total to 28.

I love CJ. This group has definitely picked up since he reappeared. He also knows a ton of stuff about Detroit iron and loves to share it with those who survive the initial shit storm.

Now I was careful to say "car," and I do admit I forgot that a Crown Victoria is a V-8 powered car -- at least in a technical sense -- and now I'm guessing that the 4 runners are the Crown Victoria, the '70 Torino, the F-100 pickup, and the E-250 van. So it's still only one real V-8 car, which was bought within the past month, and which is about to go under the knife.

If the Road Runner or the Satellite are on the block, I would be interested. After driving around in my overweight '70 Cougar and my kids' underpowered '65 Stang (overweight/underpowered: same thing?) for the past many years I've got this urge for an out of control, slobbering, tire-smoking big block Mopar. I'm thinking '66-'67 Charger, preferably with a 440 already in it, but a 318 in need of replacement would do. Or a '67 GTX. But if I could get a decent core at the right price I could go Satellite/Belvedere. So what do you think? You know I'll treat your baby right -- well other than the usual (and expensive) 180 Out bumbling.

The van hasn't run in years, but the '64 Fairlane does. What's your point, doofus?

That usual bumbling pretty much takes you out of the picture. The Satellite will be up for sale, but it's one of 36 4-door 383HP stick shifts for '69 (think Adam-12), the rest of which have not not turned up in any of the registries. It needs a total resto. The proper Mo-head will get this car. The Road Runner is a keeper.

I hate to sound critical, but why not bite the bullet and get your springs re-arched now while you have em off. I am sure it will pay dividends over the lifetime of the car. If I have learned one thing about working on cars its that you should never be in *any* hurry to complete a job.

What !?!?! Look Pawn, go down the video store and get "Falling Down" and watch it. Michael Douglas dealing with the convienence store owner and getting breakfast at the Carl's Jr. is classic. Now after you have watched the video and screwed up your courage - Go down to that place, slam the spring down on the counter and demand your money back. ;->

The guy lied to you, caused several hours of needless work and shouldn't profit from his dishonestly. Go do it now !!!
