Need assistance re-installing C-4 shift shaft & valve body

Both sets of pics are the same pieces from different angles. How are the arm A and little nub B supposed to interact with the valve body? Looking at the depressions in the machined piece on the valve body, is the nub supposed to nest in one of them? And if so how do you determine which one? Or is it supposed to go into the notch?

I appreciate all assistance.

Seems to me that "nubbin" B should go in the vertical slot near the end of the silvery detent shaft, so it can pull it back and forth to change gears, while "arm" A goes into the small gap on the other side of the shaft, ready to push on the end of the darker-colored plunger when you stomp the gas and want the trans to "kickdown".
