Resto-Mod Modification Recommendations.

I have a 1969 Mach 1 (always a "work in progress"), it has a 351W, c/r

4-speed and a locker rear end. After spending last summer doing new torque boxes, floor pans etc. I am ready for this summer....

I currently have, actually the Mach 1 currently has manual steering and front drum bakes. I have seen several kits to replace these with a rack & pinion steering and disk brakes.

Has any one used any of these kits?

Any recommendations or comments?

Thanks

Mel

I used the Flaming River manual rack kit on my '66 V8 coupe. I hate it. I wish I had not spent the money on it. The tilt steering column is cheap, and was a real bear to install. Trying to get the wiring correct took a while. The rack and cradle are well made, and very simple to install. I did have to modify one of the brackets to clear the starter, though. They advertise "Manual steering that drives like power". BS. I had to buy a bigger steering wheel because it was a fight to park it. Worse than a truck.

My advice would be to look at the Steeroids power kit. Also, I have heard that FR now has a power kit. That would be good, except get the column from somebody else, like Ididit. Or you can use the stock column.

I was looking at all of the mustang mags a few days ago. One of them had a big article on converting a tough steering manual stang to rack and pinion. I'm pretty sure it was for a 69 too.
