Scratches! :(

I got some paint off the right side air scoop (brush against a concrete pole while backing out) Fortunately, the scratches are not too deep and there is no dent. I got an estimate from a body shop, and (as expected) their rates are way too high.

I would like suggestions on whether or not I can apply some paint touch-up myself. The car is a silver v6. Please give me advice on where to get the paint and / or any 'good' scratch remover.

Also, I was considering replacing the side scoop .. any ideas on how easy it is to do that?

Thanks!

Can you take a picture or 2 & upload them to a website & then give us the link here? Hard to tell how bad the scratches are. Thanks.

Which silver? A Buddy had a silver 94 and the paint was outrageously priced. It was something special. The body man called said it was the same type of paint as laser red, which is pricey as well.

Yep, any kind of metallic paint is gonna cost ya.

Just as an interesting comparison...

When I had my mustang, I had my front bumper quoted. Laser Red. $300-$400.

Few months ago, I had my fiero quoted, black with clearcoat. $800 for the entire car.

Both cases included all the prep, etc.

In other words..that metallic paint is extremely expensive.

For one it adds more material cost, and an additional stage in painting. And is also more difficult to paint.

There is only ONE way to properly remove scratches, and that is to repaint the entire panel.

You have a metallic / clearcloat finish.

That's a 3-stage finish, excluding the primer.

2 base coats, 1 clear coat. That cannot be blended by any means I'm aware of. And touch up is going to look like...touched up scratches. You'll NEVER apply a I got some paint off the right side air scoop (brush against a
