Knock Sensor relocation ??

The knock sensor is bad on my Z-32 and I've read a couple of posts on another site that suggests relocating the sensor to a drivers side head bolt.

Anyone ever done this or heard of it done without any issues. The author of the post does alot of engine work himself. Also read a thread about jumping the sensor with a 1 meg-ohm resistor which reads like a bad idea = no protection and kind of a mickey mouse approach.

Also read that the wiring sub harness sometimes will have wire breaks or corrosion. Gonna get a new harness regardless, so that's one option.

I ordered the part for $120 from BuyNissanparts.com, cheapest price I've seen so I've got a few days before the dreaded decision. Also considered dropping the 5speed tranny and reaching the sensor that way.

10 hours of work or a short cut, any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I just bolt them to the rear most intake manifold bolt that holds the upper/lower intake together and tell people USE PREMIUM FUEL!!! It won't be an issue if you use good gas.

Good luck! I have no idea how you'd get it from that direction.. It's UNDER the lower intake manifold. You can't replace it with the engine out of the car without removing both manifolds.

It's way more than 10 hours worth of work even if you've done it before! The only reason to go there is if the engine also has leaking valve covers or needs injectors, the EGR tubes cleaned out etc.

Turned out to be bad sub harness, 35 bucks well spent. I estimated 10 hours to reach the sensor, I've never changed a knock sensor, but was guessing without looking at shop manual estimates.

Good to see others relocating to manifold. Thanks.
