I have a close friend that works on Asian vehicles exclusively. In fact, he's also built Nissan racing engines in the past. He said to "stay clear of the 1990 and 1991 Nissan 300ZXs". He recommends the 1993-1996 models--after Nissan worked some of the bugs out of the earlier Z32s. This guy has never steered me in the wrong direction regarding Z cars. I'd take his word for it since he is a certified Nissan mechanic.
