1986 Nissan P/U with a fuel injection problem

Oct 17, 2003 2 Replies

I have an 86 Nissan 4x4 V6 that seems to have an electrical problem, however, I cannot figure out where it is.

When you turn the key on, without attempting to turn it over, the injectors open up and spray gas into the carb. for about 3 seconds. Ultimately the engine is flooded out before you can even get it started.

A friend of mine thinks it may be that the Electronic Control Unit has gone bad, so I thought I'd check on here to see if anyone has ever run across anything like this before.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Regards, Mike

Try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes. Your ECU may be the problem.

Jim Rojas

We already tried that too. We also took the ECU out and discovered that there was a blown transistor in it (blown, as in into two pieces). So, we replaced that and it's still doing the same thing.

Now, I'm trying to locate a used ECU but am having little luck. Any ideas there?

Thanks, Mike
