88'Maxima Help Please! How to fix a1/4 inch wallowedout keyway on crank.

Please help me somebody! I own a 1988 Maxima, I love my car and want to fix it. I have been told that I needed another motor. Went to have timing belt changed, no problems just doing because the belt had 80,000 miles on it. The mech says the side of the keyway where the belt gear goes at the bottom of the crank has"wallowed out" 1/4 inch on the keyway of the crank. Right side is fine, the keyway falls to the left on left side the it is wallowed out. Already tried epoxy and other simular products. Can the key be welded in so it will stay in place? Need a quick fix until I find a used motor.Or does someone know of another way of fixing without haveing to by a crank kit. I have had this car 8 years never had one problem, oil and timing belt has always been changed and maintained properly.I really can't see myself without this car! Helpless Gal in N.C. Any input is very apreciated in advance. Thanks

I don't see any reason why the key couldn't be spot welded to the crank. Take it to welding shop and ask their opinion. I would also think it would be a permament fix.
