205 fuel gauge problem

Hi there

I have a 1.6 auto 205 H reg with low milage (21k)

The other day I was driving and the fuel guage starting behaving oddly, there was a quarter of a tank in there and suddenly the little light started flicking on and the needle was on total empty, then it went up to a quarter again, then down to just over empty, then empty, thats about it, its got a mind of its own at the moment.

I looked in the haynes manual and it could be a fuse or the guage thing which is accessed from lifting the rear seats. It says that I should have a spare seal when I do this so before I go down that route has anyone got an idea what I should check first of all.

Many thanks

You only need the seal if you are taking the sender unit out of the tank. Take the cover off under the back seat and make sure the connections are secure and clean. Wiggle the connector wit the ign switched on and see if it makes the gauge move. If so it is just a bad connection. - Something that pugs do well on all models!!!!!
