Just been told that one pipe and the condesor has gone in my 2001 306 Hdi - looking at £430 for the lot so now trying to source parts a bit cheaper! Anyone know if this would fit - Ebay 190101904278?
Anyone know where I might be able to get parts cheaper than £150 for the condensor?

I have managed to find on online site which will sell a new one for £99.98 inc delivery which sounds better but am I on a hiding to nothing in getting it repaired? Both front pipes will have been replaced and the condenser so what can I expect next? Am I likely to get another hefty repair next year?
I'll try Swedish/parts on Monday as we have one just down the road but I suspect that's where the guy was going to order it from anyway.
Thanks for the help would appreciate your views on whether it's worth getting it sorted. Guy said if I got the parts, he would fit and regass for £140 -- sound reasonable?

A common fault is that the pipes are made from aluminium and are held in place with a steel clip. Add a measure of road salt and water and an electolytic cell is set up and corrosion sets in.
Ask your aircon man to examine the other pipes for signs of corrosion and get those changed as well. Wrap several layers of insualtion tape around the pipes where the clips fit on so they don't touch electrically. I expect he will have come across the problem before. Also consider getting to add some dye in with the refrigerant. IF you do get a leak in the future, then it will be easier to locate the problem.

I've just had the condenser on my late late model 306 changed today. It cost about £120 +fitting; that seems about right. You could probably get one cheaper on the 'net but there appear to be several different types, so take care. My dealer was surprised that mine was "banana shaped" as he put it... (i.e. it's curved). The other poster's comment about the different materials of the pipes is a very wise one - the one pipe that runs parallel to the condenser appears to be a well-known source of problems. As well as the tracer dye already mentioned, you might want to think about getting the dryer changed as well, especially if it's never been done before or the system has been out of action for any time. The dryer absorbs any traces of moisture in the refrigerant system that could cause corrosion or other problems from the inside.
