We have had two older 306TD I think both 1.9L belonging to younger family members and both have a very heavy short travel clutch lift which I would find very wearing on long journeys or in crawling traffic. Is this a problem of all similar 306TD? were they like that when new or is it a built-in problem of the mechanical leverages from a thinning clutch plate? Or is there a quick fix for this problem that I can point them towards? Thanks. Charlie+

This is a reasonably common problem on older RHD 306, and is caused by the clutch cable running past the exhaust and being thermocycled/baked every time it's used. Over time the cable simply becomes much stiffer. A new cable will cure the problem, at least for the next couple of years...
