307 2.0 Hdi (90) MPG figures

My 307 2.0 Hdi (90) SW currently reports 38mpg avg (over 20k), mostly a motorway commute. Before this had 406GTX Estate 2.0 (petrol) and over the same journey etc, this managed 34mpg avg - both according to the computer.

38mpg doesn't seem to good for a diesel, and only 4mpg better than the petrol, of course the 307 is slight more brick shaped than the 406.

What do others get ?

Hi,

Perhaps you haven't finished with run-in.

I have the 307 saloon 2.0 HDi (110) and get an indicated 49mpg over a 40 mile commute (mostly motorway - M4)

I think I do drive it like a granny, well not quite that slow but certainly no boy racer.

Its an M4 commute, so speed it pretty much determined by the flow rather than the right foot.

Of course its difficult to compare apples with apples here due to driving styles etc

But certainly my comparison between my 406 and 307 was valid, same driver, same route

At 20k miles, I would have thought that was run in by now ?

my 307comby 2.0 HDi FAP 110hp turbocharged station wagon

- makes 47 miles/gal at 110km/h on highways

- and and 50 mil/gal best if not driving faster than 100km/h

- towing the 850kg glider trailer gives me 42miles/gal

unfortunately the 5th gear is a bit short for the highway 2400rpm at 110km/h best torque is at 1800rpm. The new version has now a 6 gear box and you get as well 50m/g at 110km/h with 2100rpm

the 90hp car has to rew higher for getting reasonable power and that results in higher consumption.

if you want save fuel, keep rpms lower than 2200rpm and drive most of the time at the best torque or below.

I get around 39 to 41 mpg in 90BHP diesel 307 SW. This is a 10 mile commute with a mixture of (slow) M77 and city snarl up. I've done about 2.5k so still bedding in. On longer a-road runs it goes up to about 50 mpg.

some diesal engines can take upto 40k to be run in properly. Try driving around without letting the turbo come onto boost.
