407 HDI 136 - knocking engine.

I have a 407 SW HDI 136 (4K miles) that every so often makes a loud "diesel" knock from the engine even under light throttle - between 1500 & 2000 revs. At same time the engine will hesitate on light throttle - only happens for a few minutes. Problem will then disappear for sometimes a eek - and then come back. Never put wrong fuel in it. 3 trips to dealer who keeps saying "no problem". Any ideas please.

Mine does exactly the same, although I have no idea what it is

Interesting that Steve. Mine is booked into Peugeot next week but I am convinced they will find absolutely nothing so I really wonder whether it is worth the time. Could be looking for a needle in a haystack. Agree?

I agree totally, have you had the climate control problem yet?

Not had the cruise control problem yet, can't wait.................

Anyway the climate control just stops working, i.e. no fan / heater and totally no control over it. All the buttons stop working, you can't even adjust the fan speed or alter the temp. Re-cycle the ignition, still the same, the only way I have found how to sort it is to leave the radio on when you park up forcing the car to go into "Economy mode active". After this point all works OK, until the next time. Peugeot have had the cars 3 times now but cannot find anything wrong with it. What I have to do now is wait for it to act up again and then drive straight into Peugeot and leave the engine running so they can witness it for themselves. (cos they think I'm crackers !!!!)

I'll keep you posted

Have you had any other problems ?

I think that all you guys said is software problem, not even electronics. They probably screwed up several "if" functions lol. Can a car be upgraded with new software? Like new drivers? :-)

No other problems as yet. The shame is Iove the car - I have had lots of Peugeots but never learn my lesson - they always develop a quirky problem that the dealers can't fix. I noticed today that my service indicator now says 2,800 miles to a service, and I have only done 4,700 miles. Is that 'cos its due a free service at 6K or has it just had an electronic stroke! By the way - do you have the colour nav system - if you do - can you make the compass display because desipte the manual I can't find any menu or buttons to make it show. It hides behind the aircon window but is never on display.

What joy !

What problem is that? I haven't noticed the engine knocking either. I did have the end of the LH indicator stalk fall off.

See SB's message higher up the list for an explanation of the aircon problem.

Mine has never said that. I had my 6000 mile free service last week, and the service indicator was 14k.

I love the car too, so it's nice to know what I've got to look forward to.

Hi this climate control problem is known to us. Its usually the c.c. panel its a problem within the unit(software) personally ive done around 3/4 now all ok.... . all the best mark ;-)

Well, the dealer has finally seen the problem with the air con. They have had it since last friday !!!

They think its either a problem with the aircon panel or the IAC control system !?!?!?!?!?!

Anyway they need to see it faut again as they will only replace the part that is actually faulty, not both as I have suggested so I can have my car back !!!

I'll keep you updated

Its a sad state of affairs - you pay all of this money and they mess you around like this. The more I read on the user groups the more I find out how little some of the dealer network knows. The customer gets a raw deal. Its as though they just don't believe you when you have a fault. Bl**dy shame really because they are great cars. I wait with interest on progress !

It is indeed an appalling state of affairs. Peugeots used to be such good cars with good support. With the newer ones, if you get one with problems then you can be in for the long haul... and Peugeot themselves are next to useless when it comes to helping out (or at least they were in my case).

Your website makes disturbing and worrying reading - sounds like you had a bad time. I have had many Peugeots - all of which have had faults that have taken ages and repeated visits to fix. The worst was a 607 that broke down 4 times and I eventually got my money back. The

407SW I have now is great but has had its moments. My real gripe is the customer service, the patr> ianjay1956 wrote:

And still am having :-( But Peugeot find it completely acceptable (or at least refuse to admit that it isn't).

The worst part is that they don't treat you as a human being who has better things to do than spend all your time getting a car fixed. They simply refuse to accept that a totally unreliable car is more than an interesting engineering challenge; it can (and has) had a huge negative impact on my life over the last three years. Sleepless nights, hours dwelling on it, constant worry, and then they have the barefaced cheek to tell me I should expect problems with a new car. They also absolutely and utterly refuse to accept any criticism of how they work.

I had considered starting one up - I have the servers to do it, but it can be tough getting a new forum off the ground. I doubt it will have any effect on Peugeot anyway - in my experience they simply refuse to listen to (or respond to) anything that they don't want to hear. By making what has happened to me public, I hope that at least I can save some other poor soul from going through the nightmare I've had (I have put several people I know who were considering the 807 off ever owning a Peugeot, as they have followed my problems with growing amazement).

Right then........time for an update....

It's rather interesting that Mark B has said its the c.c panel as that is one of the 2 things my dealer has put it down to, but they need to see it fault again before they change anything. So now I have to wait for it to go faulty again and if possible drive it straight to the dealers without switching off the engine, which is not always possible.

Mark B............Do you work for Peugeot? If so can I use your comments below as leverage to get my problem fixed ?
