Peugeot 309 Style 'STOP' Light issue

I just bought a Peugeot 309 Style (1.4) as my first car. Runs fine, just had a new MOT put on it past with an advisory for the wheels which are getting changed tomorrow anyway... But, After a short drive the 'STOP' light comes on, and without a manual I'm alittle concerned at what this may mean. I've found people saying it could be oil, but pressure and heat is nominal and it's about 3/4 between the minimum and maximum marks on the 'dip-stick' Coolant is at the right level the heat gauge is right and says it's not too hot but not cold.. everything has been check but still don't know.

The only problem (other then the ash tray being loose) is the gear box is a little sticky, clutch is fine, but it takes some effect to move the gear stick, not to engage the gears just move the stick... Could that be it?

All help will be appreciated greatly.

I had two issues with STOP light in past. One was related to temperature sensor, the other to oil compression. Buth times STOP light went on in series with another light (temperature or oil). For the temperature related problem it turned out that the sensor was faulty and after the replacement the lights stayed off. The other time I had one spark plug stopped working and slowly the fuel accumulated in the oil, diluted the oil and cause it to leak more quicly (I also have slight oil leakage) that in turn affected the compression. Again both lights went on. Probably there might be other warning lights connected in series with the STOP light.

Hope that helps MM

Yes yes, After a quick check around it is indeed because the heat sensor is faulty!
