Has anyone got any tips or experience when it comer to planting an Mi16 (or

My God.

Has this ever been done? Theoretically, it should be possible, but it would take a hell of a lot of work. For a start - are you going to use the Mi16 gearbox? How are you going connect the drivetrain? Will the engine fit without obstructing the steering components? How are you going to mount it? Is you car ready for 150+ BHP? If you go ahead with this, I wish you good luck and I would certainly like to hear how it goes.

Chris.

The diesel XU engine is fitted in the post office vans. This has the same mountings and gearbox pattern as the Mi16. These vans also had V8's in them so the gearbox may be the same in which case an SD1 box may fit. If it's a removable bellhousing then you could make up a range of adapters to fit any RWD box you like. The exhaust will be the hardest thing as you will need to get it made specially. Have a look at the puma racing site,

Dave Baker may have an idea if the engine has ever been used in RWD config and therefore a supplier for the manifold.

That's a different engine... however, Citroen also fitted the 16v XU (very similar to the Mi16) engine into the BX, but in a transverse position.

Chris.

You need the bellhousing from a late LDV 'Pilot' van and the box from a Rover SD1 or similar ;)

Hello Matt,

As Chris said, not the same engine. The 505T used IIRC an engine derivated from 505s (and 504s and 604s oh, so old :-) ), and IMO the BX 4TC is *not* a good example : only 200 cars ever build for group B registration, and unreliable as hell. Most of them must lay on scapyards... Interesting point, although not the object of the thread : it ran the world Rally Championship in the same years than the 205 T16. Who *really* remembers the 4TC's carreer, indeed ?

yeha & Tony Bond: That van, or those vans, can you give more details, a web-link or something so that I can see if it's attainable at all in Sweden? The more 'bolt on' the better! :)

Concerning the gearbox I was thinking of the 5 gear 505 turbo 'box and diff. which are claimed to be directly compatible. This 'box copes with 300 Nm.

The old engine leans and flows the same way as the XU and the packaging bit doesn't seem to be that big a problem. I am also picking up a scrapped XU9J4 bottom end to use for fitting purposes.

The chassis and brakes will be duly taken care of before I undertake any engine jobs. I will run the stock engine for a while.

I guess the exhasust will be "weld in" all the way anyway, so the manifold can be manufactured at the same time.

Oh, and it's a 504 coupé, so it's not just "any" 504, so I believe it to be wortwhile to try and match the performance to it's looks.

If I would be interrested in a turbo engine, the entire 505T drivetrain is supposed to slot right in more or less. However, I guess it takes a lot of plumbing.

"LDV 200 Diesel, N reg. (1995-96)

Hello,

No, they never had the XU engines. The Diesel version of the XU is the XUD. It equipped all *new* pugs at the date of 1980. 205s, 305s, 405s, 605s, 806s ... The 505 had former engines family (XDs), like the 504.

No relation. The XUs were designed for transversal mounting, and AFAIK were fit to FWD cars (excepted some 4x4 versions, like the military vehicle P4). The XN/XDs were designed for long. mounting, like on 504s/505s. And J7s / J9s, of course.

Bullshit. The PRV is reliable, but "thirsty". The problems met with first series of XMs and 605s were due to crap connectors, this involving fails in electronics.

Thanx! However, I've managed to get hold of an XU9J4 bottom end for fitting for next to no money. I'll return to you with clutch problrms!
