Rumbling sound from wheel on '92 605

Hi,

I'm hoping that one of the experts here can help me!

I have a 19xx model 605 with the 2.0litre engine. Recently, it's started to make a rumbling sound from one of the wheels. This occurs only above about

40mph, and decreases if I turn slightly to the left. My first thought was that it was a worn wheel bearing, but I've checked the wheels and none of them have any play. I've put the car on axle stands and run it to "above 40mph", and didn't hear the noise - or at least, not as noticeable. I've also swapped each wheel in turn for the spare, running it to 40mph+ on the road each time, and that made no difference.

Can anyone offer me a suggestion as to what the problem might be, please?

Thanks in advance,

-Phil Pace.

Oops.. knew I missed something. It's 1992 vintage, if that makes any difference.

Hi Phil,

I don't know if the game found in a work bearing can be felt by hand shaking tyres. I'd say wheel bearing.

Hi Guys,

First off let me say that I know nothing specific to the 605; however . . . if the wheel bearings are proved good, then does the 605 have a bearing on one of it's drive shafts (Thinking of my old 205) if that is on its way out it may give a similar rumble.

Good luck Jeb

Hi Phil,

Don't know if this applies to your problem, but I had a similar experience.

My 605 was also rumbling, sometimes from the front right, sometimes from both "wheels"... I got new anti-roll bars and that fixed the problem. This is a common problem on 605:s since they "eat" the front suspension linkages rather heavily compared to eg a 405...
