Towing

Towed with my 406 for the first time and the rear sagged down. What is the easiest way to stiffen the suspension?

You don't say what you are towing. Have you got too much weight forward of the "trailer" wheels and the tow ball? Check here for tips

I suppose you could also consider changing the springs. Here is some info:

for HDI 2.0 estate, the colours are 1 white + 3 Orange 3.0 V6 , 3 Blue + 1 White for Break 2.0 Petrol, 2 Black + 1 Black + 1 Blue or 3 Blue for Break 2.0 Turbo Petrol, 2 Blue + 1 Black + 1 Blue or 3 Orange for Break

Exactly. The ball pressure should not be more than 50 kg. Try and stand on the ball yourself and see what the car does. If you are a very big bloke, ask your son/daughter for a more realistic effect. Or lift the trailer/caravan by the handle. Should be possible. Having power-assisted steering you probably don't notice if the front lifts too much, but that used to be a nice indication of a too heavy load on the back.

I can't imagine that a normal 406 sags when loaded properly. If the load is correct, your springs might also be in need of replacement.

I've towed with a 406 petrol for three years[20ft caravan] no bother at all.Check your noseweight with bathroom scales, move all heavy stuff to above axles [if a caravan] and don't place really heavy objects in the van front or your car boot.I also pump up rear tyres an extra couple of pounds.Mine runs pretty level.
