'02 GP Tail light lens

I bought an '02 GP SE about a year ago and didn't see at that time any thing wrong cosmetically. In the intervening months the left tail light lens has progressively cracked in several places so that now after a car wash or good rain enough water gets in to blow the bulbs. Easy enough to replace bulbs, but would prefer to not have to. Does anyone know if this is a common problem, i.e. possibly covered by dealer, or a reliable source of replacement parts? It almost looks as if the clear outside part of the assembly can be replaced just by itself, but don't want to worsen problem by prying when and where I shouldn't. Any and all thoughts/ideas welcome!

If it were under warranty the dealer might replace just the outer clear lens. They did on my 91 Bonneville because the black bordering was disolving inside the lens.

I hate these lights that have the clear lens over the taillights.

The clear lens is hard to remove because you have to break the seal loose as you pry it apart.

In you case of the lens being cracked then a new or used tailight would probably be the best bet .

good luck

In the mean time, drilling a small hole in the bottom of the lens will at least let the water just pass through, and hopefully not blow the bulb. GW

honestly it's probably not worth the effort to repair the housing ---- at least not given the many options available to you for a replacement. ebay has number of options from new and slick to used ones --- to check 'em out click

There's also a gentleman out of Ohio that has a very good rep for used parts for the Grand Prix --- you can contact him at snipped-for-privacy@msn.com and ask him for a price on the housing you need. He's probably your cheapest option. He's very well respected on clubgp.com and I've used him a number of times myself.

As a note that housing fits in '97 to '03 cars, so you're not limited to a '02 part.

good luck
