96 2.2 No code's, throttle loss after warm

My 96 2.2 3spd auto sunfire starts losing throttle after the motor gets warmed up about 30 min. or so. After that, Over the course of about 2 min. I need to push the pedal less and less till it's only able to idle, then after about 1-2 min, it will die if left untouched. Let it set for 3-4 min, and all's well for a couple more mins.then.......... again If I "peddle" it it, will rev up some what {out of rear} but now way to be drivable. I put a new filter on, and checked flow at the tank both with and w/o filter, before and during the problem and it's the same. Since there's no check engine lights to code it's a real stumper. Stumped!!! Revin

Check your fuel pressure when the condition is occurring. Sounds like a classic worn electric fuel pump.

Put a vacuum gage on the engine. Sounds like a catalytic converter that is backing up, (that I once encountered a different type of vehicle). If the reading is normal at start up, then starts dropping lower and lower, you have found the problem. Otherwise, as for fuel "flow".....you need to check fuel "pressure" also.

Thanks guys. I got a {$45!!:{ gauge and a new set of AC's today. Got the new plugs in @ .060.{it had the orginals w/70k on 'em, they ranged from .069--.073 gap, not too bad} but didn't get to use the guage yet, i'll need to undo the repair splice I just put in to install it{no schrader valve:{} Now for some reason, the problem has yet to appear since the new plugs I repeated all the steps that led up to the trouble, and it surpassed them,...........sofar. I also did a compresion check while I had them out 3 @ 160, 1 @ 158, so i'm happy for now. I'll get a presure reading then see what happens . Thanks again Rev

Allow me to save you some heartache, My Gran Prix was doing the same thing from what it sounds. what you have is a bad ground to the Ignition control module (ICM) (it located under the coil packs) next time it starts acting up slap your hand down hard, on top of the coil packs and see if it doesn't straighten up. if it does, pull the packs and run some conductive grease on the underside of the ICM and that may fix it. took me a month of testing to figure out thats what was wrong with mine.
