A couple ??'s about the 04 GTO

Ok, yesterday I read some posts here about the "no clutch" shift. Well lastnight I tried it and it worked, but I remember I used to do this when I was "power shifting" in a race or whatever back in the 70's. Does this hurt the trany or the driveshaft? I rather use the clutch myself, it just feels right. Ok next question. I also read about the DDL and to pull the fuse to shut them off. I did this , but first of all the instrument light for the DDL was still on and the sensor didn't turn the lights on at dusk while in the running/fog lamp position.(im sure it did before). I think im going to put the fuse back in. And what about the sensor adj. for dusk/night headlamps, does this have anything to do with what I was talking about?

And on another "note" (this is sad) I was fueling up lastnight and while the gas was pumping I went to check the oil. With the hood up, this car pulled up to the opposite pump with some teenagers in it. (17-19 yo) They were very impressed with the "power plant" and asked if it was a 6 cyl...lol..I said,"no its an 8" and proceded to tell them about it. (it was like they never seen an 8 cyl before) Then they asked, what kind of Pontiac it was.(yikes I was floored) I said it was a GTO (like it says all over the motor) so one of the kids said, "It must be a new model huh?" I said, Go ask your father about it or better yet, your grandfather....lol....Then I proceded to show them what a GTO is all about as I turned off the T/C and left the station in full GTO glory. (use your imagination)

BB, Which fuse are you referring to? Is this the day time running lights (DRL) that you are trying to disable? And the other item there, is that the twilight sentinel inoperative with above mentioned fuse removed? Trying to understand the questions. Back in the seventies "power shifting" utilized the clutch, but you never took your foot off the gas pedal, correct? You could also power shift w/o the clutch as long as you knew synchronization shift points between gears. I don't think any of it was good for the tranny. Teenagers today would have no idea about 70's muscle cars let alone the great GTO's of that time.

Thanks for the reply Mark, The fuse I removed was under the hood in the fuse box and it was marked for the DDL. Thats the ONLY fuse I removed. It did shut the DDL lights off and the lights did come on at dusk if the switch was in the auto position, but in the running light position the headlamps would not come on automatically. So I put the fuse back in and everything worked as it should. I guess that fuse did more than work only for the DDL.

Ok, as far as the "power shifting" thing, you're right in your description. What I was talking about was shifting w/o using the clutch. Taking your foot off of the accelerator and shifting (no clutch).. Im sure I read a poster about it somewhere that said this can be done with this transmission. Im not talking about the skip shift it has to advoid the $1000.00 gas tax. (which is a pain in the arise to get used to). I found if I bring it up over 3 grand before shifting to second I advoid it. I hope I explained it well enough, its kind of hard to describe it to someone unless they tried it or know about it. But I did my best.........Thanks.......

There is a kit that bypasses the skip shift, it was for the vette, but I'm pretty sure it'll work with the GTO since its the same transmission.

here it is:

I'm sure you can find it cheaper elsewhere since RKsport is kinda pricey.
