not knowing much about them, i would say when it drops below 0 celcuis, and leave it plugged in all night if you can afford it. that is what i would think. or 32 degrees fareinhieght, which ever measurement you go by.

I use to live in montana and use to plug in before we went to bed or if it is real cold -40's we would plug it anytime we were'nt driving the car.......and use thiner oil in the winter..john j aka salmonslayer

If it is a newer fuel injected car I'd say when it drops to -15c its a good idea to plug it in. It will start with out but its harder on it being so cold. Make sure you have 5w-30 oil in it which you probably do. Heck my Van will start right up no problem at -30 but its hard on it so I plug it in.

As for time if its a 4cly. 2 hrs is plenty of time, a big V8 3hrs is better. You can get cords with timers on so it will come on a couple hrs. before you start it up in the morning etc. However like another poster said its really cold like -40 then yes I'd plug in over night.

91 Pontiac Owners manual says plug it in if its - 20F ( - 29 C ) or colder out. IT goes on to say how long you keep it plugged in depends on the weather & type of oil in the vehicle. It concludes with saying to contact the dealer for more information.

Keep Warm !

Goood lord, I'd die if it was that cold... I get cold at 69 F.

Always use 5w30 oil in winter months antifeeze at -40 c. Make sure vehicle has been tuned up . Use an pint of methyl hydrate in fuel tank every fill and you'll survive.

All newer cars are supposed to use 5w 30 all year now.
