Look under the rear end of the car. There is what you would call a frame. Make sure it isn't tweaked or buckled. If it is, it's only a parts car.
Quarter panels are welded on. Sometimes body shops cut the entire panel off at the seams or just torch off a few inches from the damaged area.. Getting everything lined back up so every part lines up is the hard part. There could be area's damaged your not aware of..
The unibody, exhaust, trunk floor, the rear windows seal could of cut lose for a quarter inch and could possibly leak next time it rains.
Be best to get several estimates, includiing complete quartee replacement or partial. Some shops may even say they can fix the existing panel.
