transport trouble code problem??

i have a 94 transport with the check engine soon light on,the van appears to be running fine but,this not a obd 2 system,and even though the connector appears to be obd 1,the pins are not the same configuration to jump the top left two to read the light for pulse codes,autozone along with a few other shops say they cannot read the codes,i understand to a point that this was a transition period between the two obd formats but there must be someway to read these codes????? bob
