is it still a waiting list everywhere,
or are there some california dealers with low-end packages (1,2,3?) in stock?

I don't think those are available in CA. I believe the only ones available here are package 6, 7 & 9, or at least that's what the 2004 models were. (I've got a 2004 package 6). Good luck. I'm sure there's still a wait list, but it's worth it!
