Hm... either my sums have been wrong, or Toyota sold more vehicles than they've been reporting in their monthly press releases... or maybe Toyota has it wrong, as my July cumulative sales numbers add up... "Toyota/Lexus hybrid sales from January 1, 2006 through May 31, 2006 totaled 68,637." http://www.toyota.com/prius/tax.html http://www.toyota.com/camry/tax.html http://www.toyota.com/highlander/tax.html http://www.lexus.com/models/popup_taxCredit.html

Could you work up some 2005 vs 2006 numbers month by month for all Toyota hybrids?
CNW Marketing is claiming Toyota hybrid sales are off, specificly the Prius. I can believe for just the Prius that might be true because now we have choices. But I suspect if we do a month by month comparison of all Toyota hybrids for 2005 and 2006, we will find they are selling more hybrids this year across all models than they did in 2006.
Thanks, Bob Wilson

I've been taking the hybrid numbers for Toyota from the monthly Toyota press releases (links at the bottom of my posts). Toyota lists each model's sales for the month and calendar year to date, and lists in comparison to the sales in the same time period the year before (and % change).
However, prior to 2006, it is difficult to get hybrid sales figures for the models where the hybrid drivetrain is just another trim level of the vehicle... (Starting 2006, the hybrids sold by a manufacturer became important for determining tax credit phaseout periods.) Since 2006, the hybrid models have been broken out in the opening summary information, and they're not listed separately in the table format.
Feel free to use the source info and the collated info I've been posting to check your sales numbers. (I'll note that Toyota pointed out that July 2006 marked the first time that Toyota/Lexus has sold 100,000 hybrids in a calendar year in the US.)
Yes, Prius sales were down earlier this year. Word from Toyota was that some parts were diverted to the hybrid Camry launch. There was also some speculation/unverified rumor that Toyota wanted to push out the date that they hit the tax credit phaseout by limiting Prius sales, so that at least some of their Camry Hybrids would qualify... That's not to say that Prius or Camry Hybrid demand isn't outstripping supply (as seen by several month waiting lists for either, and some dealers still charging an "availability premium" markup).
