Rover 416SLi - "knocking" under centre front of car

Aug 10, 2003 1 Replies

This one's on behalf of my mum: she has an L-reg Rover 416SLi which is "knocking" somewhere under the central front part of the car when accelerating around left and right bends. Initially it was believed to be a CV joint problem and the CV joints were replaced, one of them twice. Yet the dull knocking sound persists. Any ideas?

I don't know who checked the CV joints and replaced them, but they are aware that it didn't fix the problem and haven't been able to identify the real cause.

Any response much appreciated. I'll try to provide more information if requested.

On 1.6 Honda engined Rovers one of the drive shafts I cannot remember which (I think the nearside) is in two half's it could be play in that joint/mount rather than the outer CV joints.
