The shifter knob has turned. What is the trick to turning it back? Push? Pull? Twist? Thanks in advance for your help. GE

My car exhibits this also. I've heard that it is due to the breaking or wearing down of a little plastic bump in the white plastic ball joint at the bottom of the shift lever. I picked up a replacement ($1 at a Saab convention), but haven't had a chance to try it out. So I can't conclusively say that this is the problem.
