Hi All

What a wonderful newsgroup. Just became proud owner of a beautiful 9-5 (1998) and am over the moon, was always happy in subaru legacy, but will never look back. However the airco has a "small" problem. While cool air is comforting the front passengers, the backseat passengers are bombarded with hot air. Anyone come across this? She's going to the airco specialist but if he can't fix it he will stop the airflow to the back alltogether. Would like to give him some encouragement to fix, with your help....

Also there is no manual (handbook) is there such a thing as .pdf download? would really like to operate the airco without guessing (why for instance doesn't it stay "off" between trips)

Believe that could be fixed be calibrating the aircon. Calibration If the battery has been disconnected or has run flat, the system will need to be recalibrated. To start the calibration procedure:

1 Start the engine. 2 Press and simultaneously. Calibration takes about 30 seconds. During this time and for about 3 seconds after the operation has been completed, the number of fault codes (if any) stored in the system will appear in the temperature display on the left. The fault codes themselves will be shown in the temperature display on the right. Useful tips (Before driving the car to an authorized Saab dealer) =95 If AUTO is not shown on the display, see =94Cancelling the programmed=

settings (I)=94 on page 73. =95 If you suspect that the ACC system is not functioning properly, cancel (delete) all programmed settings and then recalibrate the system. See =94Cancelling the programmed settings (I) and (II)=94, pages 73 and 74, and =94Calibration=94 above. Note that AUTO will show on the display even if you have completed Programming II, but that this does not apply to Programming I. =95 If the battery has been disconnected or has run flat, the ACC system will need to be recalibrated. See =94Calibration=94 above.

Look at mygmlink.com and register there. Do not worry about the VIN.=20 Click on the Glovebox section and it is there.

This is a design bug in the ducting of the air condition system.

The answer to your question is in my Saab 9-5 FAQ:

| Q: I have the AC on, but the rear nozzles are blowing hot air. Why? | A: You have closed the passenger side front nozzles.

A Saab dealer should be able to order a manual for your model/year.

You can program it to start up in any state. If you shut the car off for less than 10 minutes it will start up in the state it was in when shut down, if the car is shut of for more than ten minutes it will start up in the programmed default. This is a feature so you can make a short pit stop without having to change the current settings when you resume your trip.

I would recommend that you try to find a manual, there is quite a bit of programming that can be done to the ACC and the audio system by pushing buttons in different combinations. Quite hard to find out without the manual.

Great stuff ! many thanks ! Feel like a blind man who's sight is restored. Opened the manual and went straight to the cc section. ...nevertheless the following sentence in the manual does not give me great confidence..."Once the desired climate has been achieved the rear centre vents can be closed to prevent warm air being distributed at face height" ??? in software development we call this turning a bug into a feature. Hopefully calibrating will reduce the air temperature in the back from hot to something mroe bareable. Ah well, life isn't suppose to be perfect.
