900 electrical mayhem

900 T16 S '87 (uk) I'm not sure if anyone is going to be able to help, cause diagnosing elecrical faults is confusing when you've got the car in front of you (for me anyway). what has happened is since i had some welding done on the car and i fixed the heated seats elements the: radio, interior light and clock stopped working. - the radio turns on, you can hear the aerial click but it doesnt extend and no sound comes out. - the interior light fuse blows and i think has lots of current as it blew my multi meter (when turned circuit should have been off). - the clock is strange as it does work but goes very slowly, about 3hours a day!

caused by welding? - Now could it be an earth problem? - there is a relay just above a patch of welding under the n/s (uk) rear seat, could that have been damaged?

Caused by heated seat repair? - a short circuit?

Or just coincidental?

grasping at straws i know but just wondering if a fault was known that could involve these 3 devices.

all the other electrics work fine.

yours hopefully Derek

It's a hell of a lot more difficult when you don't have the car in front of you, and all you have is a half-description.

"no sound comes out" - does the radio power up correctly? Is there voltage at the aerial?

What range did you have your multimeter set to?

Certainly could be. The main way welding causes car electrical problems is by melting cables, so have a good look around where the welding was done and see if there are any bits of wiring in the area, then check them out.

Cheers,

Colin.

Was the battery disconnected whilst the welding was being done ?
