900 se 2.5V6 ACC problem

Hi

Just bought a very low mileage 1995 900 se 2.5 V6 Auto (1st 900 but 5th Saab) and all seemed fine at 1st. Last week or so came out and battery was dead although weather in London very hot. Charged battery and refitted but then noticed a whirring sound even with the ignition off. Found this to be coming from behind the interior sensor for the ACC. I am sure that this is draining the battery but do not know what the problem is. ACC is not blowing out cold air so needs a regas but do not know why this whirring noise continues even with engine off. Did the calibration bit as listed in the manual but still the same.

Any ideas greatfully received.

Good Luck to you. You seem to have picked a car out with the options that everyone around here rails against. The dreaded GM V6 engine and an automatic transmission.

The whirring noise is probably from the small fan that blows air over the cabin temp sensor. These generally do run on for a while after the car is turned off, but should eventually time out.

You can do a current drain test by hooking an ammeter up in series with the battery ground lead (disconnect negative lead and make the connection with the meter) while the car is *off*. Observe how much current there is and then start pulling fuses until it drops significantly. Figure out what is powered by that circuit and you will have isolated the fault like a pro.

Guessing, rather than troubleshooting, can get rather expensive...
