hi,
recently i noticed a slightly higher temperature on my 9000, so i thought maybe the head gasket is gone completely now, cos i am also mysteriously loosing coolant... no smoke from exhaust, not mixing with oil, no wet in the front foot compartments (heater core), but i am losing too much for my taste, well i noticed that my cooling fan must not have been working for some days now, it used to run for one or two minutes after turning off the car and now it doesnt, i found that out when i arrived to work, so i checked the following : replaced the relay with the one of the foglights : no effect, foglights work with both relays, fan works with none, that rules out the relay i think. then i let the car heat up to a point where the fan normally kicks in (slightly above the middle of the temp gauge). nothing. i found out that the left and right slot on the relay socket seem to be the control voltage and the upper and lower slots are the switched voltage, so i had
+12V from left to right with the foglight switch on on the relay ssocket of the foglight, but i didnt have anything on the fan relay socket, i am sure it was hot enough to trigger that. then i bridged the top against the low slot in the relay socket and -magic- the fan was running of course. this means that the fan is also good, i am keeping this bridged all the time im driving now because that seems safer to me than running without a fan in city traffic. now that has to mean that the temperature sender is broken... i am going to check that out right now, does anyone else have some ideas on what to do/check ? fuses seem to be fine too. Also where exactly is the temp sensor located, i read something about that it is on the right lower side of the radiator, near the place where my foglights are. any idea ?? this is a 1990 9000T 2.0
