95 non start driving me mad!

Help! An unusual expression here I guess? :) I have a 2000 95 that has a weird problem. It starts cold fine. Drive it for 15 mins, and 50% of the time, turn the key to re-start and nothing. Wait 30 mins and it starts fine, without a blush of embarresment! It's an auto, and it's not the following cos I have had them replaced - crankshaft sensor, gearbox inhibitor switch, battery, relays. starter cable lead. Saab don't know what's wrong as the computer diagnosis shows no fault. This has been going on for a year!!!!! It's driving me crazy, I love the car but it's getting close to trade in time! Any experience of this anyone? Roger

When you say "nothing", can you expand on that? No run, or no crank, or no solenoid click, or ???

Sure - no crank or dimming of lights etc. I can hear a relay click faintly but it's sounds/feels like the circuit breaker that cuts everything else when you power the starter. No clunk or whirr of starter engaging or anything. It's kinda like what would happen if you turned the key with the transmission in Drive or Reverse etc. Does that help any?

Like maybe an interlock is telling it it's in gear? I don't have a theory, I"m just trying to clarify the question in hopes that someone jumps in.

You must check for voltage at the starter solenoid when the key is turned to the start position. If present, that's your problem. If not, backtrack through the wiring diagram till you find voltage.

You may try a few light raps on the solenoid with a hammer next time it happens as well.
