A/C compressor

Hello everyone, Recently I bought a 9000CS 2,3T '92. For about three weeks now I can hear a noise coming from the A/C compressor. It sounds very similar to a noise generated by a power steering pump low on fluid. While running in ECON mode compressor generates some vibrations. Do you have any ideas about the cause of such noise and vibrations? Could it be a bearing inside of the compressor? Can it be rebuilt? Thanks for any help.

Hmm. Had some noises from this source some years back and started to investigate. The A/C compressor is not made by Saab, so if you go to a Saab garage, they will replace the whole thing as one unit. A better bet is therefore to go to a generic A/C specialist. It is quite an expensive part to mess with, so I decided to leave it. The noise has since disappeared, possibly due to a belt change, I'm not sure.

I just looked at it. It is a Seiko Seiki compressor. Might the manufacturer have an independent service shop?

Possibly a Stuck TX valve in the system or front clutch bearing requires replacement..

how ever here in Australia, you can but recond seiko compressors dirt cheap..

Dont trust any AC specialist.. as wrong quantities of oil and gas will damage the system, ensure that the guys are familiar with that type of car.. it is known that mixing wrong oils, causes the hoses to perish and block up the evaporater and then you will have big dollars to spend.

Don, Better replace the A/C compressor soon, mine on my 92 9000CD froze up completly and the "S" belt smoked and squeeled and I was standed. I replace it with another used one. It could become a problem.

Good Luck, Oscar

Last Friday I have taken my compressor to the car AC shop. They have tested it and said that compressor is in fine shape. However, belt wheel bearing was almost in pieces. It was the last minute to replace it. Overall cost of replacement including new bearing and AC recharge was around 80 Euro. AC works fine now and it is nice and quiet inside.
