Any special tools required for a clutch job on a C900

Evening fellas..

I have a 92 C900 na that would appear to need a clutch. Are there any special tools or jigs needed for this job? I have the "Bentley" book, for what it's worth. Having just recently discovered that the heads are using some special damn bolts, and the shift linkage uses some other damn thing to hold it together, I'm a bit shy of having a go at the clutch.

Sounds like you need a book, my friend. Bentley's guide is good, the dealer should have it. The clutch job is made immensely easier with a "clutch spacer tool" which goes for 20 bucks at the dealer; keeps the clutch disk depressed while you take it out, without which it's nearly impossible to do the job without swearing.

What are the symptoms of the clutch problems you're seeing, exactly? It's easily a saturday job, with just basic tools.

Have the book. Just looking for those "gotcha's" that have snuck up on me in the past. Like that "clutch spacer tool" you mentioned. I don't suppose there is a substitute for said clutch spacer tool, the dealer is quite a hike from where I am.

Clutch slips under power. This has been creeping up on me for a while. Doesn't matter if it's a slave cylinder, worn clutch pads, or god forbid a crankshaft seal (likely not, no visible oil seepage in that area), I'm still in that neck of the woods.

Yeah, I see that on re-reading your post, sorry 'bout that.

Thick wire, or anything flexible and non-compressable. But, put it this way - I've done more than a few of 'em, and this time, I'm buying the tool. Getting too old for this improvisation crap.

Yup, do 'em all. The "clutch kit" has all of those in and is cheaper than buying them individually. Don't forget the pilot bearing and as you say the seal, which are -not- part of said clutch kit.
