BHP question

I bought my Saab 9000 2 litre turbo about 15 months ago and I think it's wonderful. The ad said it was 175 bhp and I didn't see any need to question it (it seemed very quick but there again I hadn't driven anything for 5 years...........so a three legged horse would have seemed impressive!). It's an 'H' reg, saloon. I recently checked the 'Parkers guide' and I'm having trouble finding a model of this age with this bhp. It wouldn't normally bother me but I'm thinking about selling it and buying a newer Saab. I don't want to say, it's BHP is one thing, and find out it isn't. Any ideas? Regards, Denise

Hi Denise - 175 BHP sounds right for the model year (1990/1991, right?). I've just grabbed this from for a slightly earlier model year.

Peak torque, I)IN 273 Nm (27.8 kgf m or 201 lb ft) at 3000 rpm. Max. boost pressure 0.85 bar. Rating, DIN 175 bhp (129 kW at 5300 rpm. Weight/power ratio* 16.7?17.6 lb/bhp (7,6-7,9 kg/bhp). Compression ratio 9.0:1

The 175 BHP did continue to MY 1990, so you might well just have a very early 1991 or a late 1990. The year on year model changes can be found here:

If you drop your VIN (it's on your V5 and starts with YS3AB) in this decoder, you might find out a little more:

I'm pretty sure that the APC box (the turbo computer) should be numbered

7524143 on your model year, which is rated to 175 BHP.

... Come back with more questions ... :)

Are you happy to reveal the VIN here ? That'll tell all. I can look it up.

Since they're overtly displayed in the windscreen (or was that just the later 9000s?), probably not :) is a good resource.

Agreed. Indeed I just realised that one belatedly after I posted my msg.

Should 9000.com not decode it, I have a genuine copy of a Saab EPC that should do the job.
