Boost pressure problem

1996 9000 Aero I still have an intermittent over-boost problem. The hoses seem ok and the waste gate can be operated by hand, so it looks like the boost pressure control valve. I shall take it off and have a look at it; can one wash it out like a AIC valve, or will it be damaged/ I am not sure what there is inside it!
