Cost (UK) of regassing Aircon

I just became the proud owner of a "posh" Saab, instead of the bog standard 9000 S i used to drive The one problem is that apparently the aircon needs regassing Anyone know what the approximate cost of doing so is, or is it a case of "how long is a piece of string" in as much as you get charged different prices at different places? Also - will the heater still work, with the aircon needing regassing?

TIA

I have a 9-3 convertible and mine needed regassing and only just got it done. The heater worked fine up until I got it done. I went for the full Saab air con service which has a standard charge of £91.80. On top of this Saab charged £10 for the gas, £7.50 for tracer dye for leak checking and £3.60 for disposal of old gas. All excludes VAT. Not cheap but I have to say it now works better than it has ever done.

Hope this helps.

Be careful of just "regassing" as its fairly pointless if the gas has leaked through a hole in the condensor or a leaky pipe. Also beware anyone who just tops it up, aircon relies on the right amount of gas in it to work properly, and anyone just topping up will not know how much gas is already in there.Make sure you have the whole system properly vacuum tested, make sure the valves are checked over, make sure the system is properly checked for leaks. Also make sure all of the electronics are working correctly such has shut off valves and pressure switches, Then have all the old "gas" evacuated fully, then regassed fully using the correct wieght of R134, make sure you get the compressor lubricated, and also make sure they test the pressure head too and ensure the fans cut in and out at the right time. You should be able to get all that done for around £100 inc VAT.
