How to Program a New Remote for my 1997 900SE Convertible 2.0 L Turbo

I just bought a 1997 Saab 900SE Convertible 2.0 L Turbo, which came with one key and one remote. I bought a couple of remotes and a couple of keys, but have been told that you have to take the car to the dealer to get them programmed. Is this true? If it is, how much would you to expect to pay to get a dealer to do the programming? If not, does anyone know how to program the remote and key?

THANKS! Paul

You need the Saab ISAT or Tech II computer to programme the remotes to the car security system, the actual time to do the job is less than 15 minutes but what you get charged depends on how friendly your dealer is.

Yes, either a dealer or an independent saab mechanic (cheaper, same job). Typical cost is $50 usd to program. If you need keys, you will have to order them from the dealer. Bring *all* your remotes.

It is cumbersome, but it's related to allegedly more secure anti-theft solutions.

Congrat's on the '97 vert. If you post more info about miles and what's been done, we can give you some important maint advice.
