Re 88 SAAB 900 Battery Drain problem

A well know phenomina: Main root causes I know:

1) Weak quality of contact from the alternator to earth. 2) Almost worn brushes in the alternator.

Test: Start the car, switch on heater fan, rear window heater, headlights. Run the engina at approx 100-1500 RPM. Take a wire and connect the metal outside of the alternator with f.e. the distrubution cover or a other good solid earth point z(neg pole battery if you heve assistanse ore long arms) Now the rpm should be stable and the head light at the same "strength", the fan speed should not rise. If this is not the case the the root cause is 1. If there is a change the root cause is 2.

Other cause can ofcourse be there but less common.

Good luck and let is know if it works. Frank
