SRS light was on thought it would take $200 to $800 to fix Bought the car now mechanic whom I have used for years and trust says he cannot work on this particular system
Car has clean record i have personal knowledge of it although it did strike some road debris some time in the past year or so
You may just need to have the SRS light reset. If the battery was disconnected when the key was in the on position it may cause your SRS light to stay on. At least that's what happened with my 1990 900S. I did have to take it to a dealer to get it reset.
Hope that's your problem...sure would be a cheaper fix.
I also have a 92 conv. SRS light is for the airbag on the steering wheel. Fixed offending light by removing same. If the computer has locked in a fault by removing power with the ignition switch on, the airbag will still work properly. If the flexible thingy that attaches the airbag to the computer guts is bad, I guess the airbag won't go off. If one of the collision sensors is faulty, I have no idea what happens. If you must have the airbag working, it will take about a 100 US$ for the part and an anxious half hour or so to change the connection thing, airbags being lethally explosive you know. You will still have to go the SAAB dealer and pay some factory trained hose head the best part of 200 US$ to reset the SRS computer after waiting around about half a day. Should you feel fiscally adventurous and take the car to the dealer you will be treated to an estimate of some obscene amount. Or you can "fix" the problem simply.
About 2 years ago, the dealer quoted me something over 350. I lost interest quick. Perhaps the dealer I went to was mistaken about the cost. I would be curious what the damage will be.
