Tyre noise 9-5

Does anyone know if the 9-5 SE has more sound insulation than the 9-5 base? I have just changed my SE for a base model and am very disappointed with the amount of tyre noise while driving on the motorway.

The only differences between the vehicles are the SE was 2.3 eco, has a sunroof and cloth interior, the base model is 2.0 eco has leather interior. Both are pre facelift models.

Thanks for your help on this.

I don't know, but I'd be surprised if this is the case.

Ah, but what wheels and tyres did they each have? The brand and tyre profile can make a huge difference to the amount of tyre noise.

I had a couple of 9-3 loaners a while ago when my 9000 was being serviced. Driving back on the concrete motorway sections I found the tyre noise annoying. Checking later I noticed the boots were Pirelli (6000 or 9000). The next day I was given an different (but later) 9-3, this time with Dunlop's - no noise. This may or may not prove anything, but I've always had the impression that tyre noise varies greatly between brands and that Pirelli can be noisy. Or could it be differences in pressure? Of course it could be that more noise comes with more grip? (just like wear=grip).
