Re: After Market Wires/MSD Ignition Wires

I've used Accel, Magnecor, SPS, Vitek, and Stock wires all with good results. I've heard people who have had ignition problems with the Nology capacitive wires, Splitfire plugs, platinum plugs (can't remember the brand though), and problems from the terminals on the coil being pitted from arcing over time. If you find your any new plug wire terminals with them when the same thing happens next time. Accel and SPS both sell aftermarket coils for a decent price. Hope that you don't have to replace your ignition module, because it's a hefty price from the dealer (although I've never heard of any that have gone bad).

Buy wires that don't cost an arm and a leg, look good, and fit right. Don't buy based on the typical "more power!" claims because wires are wires (at least on a Saturn stock ignition system anyway) - they either work properly or they don't. And why a mechanic would say that removing rapid fire plugs might 'blow it out', I have no idea.

I've had the best results with the factory recommended NGK plugs both in my street car and track car.

I have to agree on the NGK, though I'm using the slightly upgraded NGK-V plugs but I see no real benefit in something like those beru plugs or whatever it is that SPS sells for instance. Plug wires I'm just using SPS cause the saturn parts dept happened to be carrying them in red, was going to do magnecor but they didn't have them for a 98 DOHC and I was picking up all new parts from coils to plugs cause my stock coils were shot. I am getting some rough idling though still but I think I figured out that might be because I didn't realize the contact surface between the ignition module and the tranny has to be nice and clean and I think I got "engine grime" on those surfaces a bit so I'll be pulling the module back off this weekend to clean under there good.
